What Are the Types of Hemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids are classified according to the site of origin, internal when they originate in the upper half of the anal canal and external when they originate in the lower half. In advanced cases, internal and external hemorrhoids coexist and are called interno-external (mixed) hemorrhoids.

When external hemorrhoids worsen, they form clusters all around the anal canal. When internal hemorrhoids enlarge, they begin to protrude from the anus. Initially, they can be pushed back manually (with fingers), and, as the disease progresses, some stay out permanently and are called prolapsing hemorrhoids.

MYTHS ABOUT HEMORRHOIDS

Hemorrhoids are one of the oldest ills known to mankind. They were referred to in the writing of ancient Egyptians, the ancient Greeks and the Hebrews. The first book of Samuel in the old Testament also refers to the hemorrhoids as 'emerodss" in the secret parts (I Sam. 5:12). The word hemorrhoid is derived from the Greek hemorrhoids meaning flowing of blood (hem = blood, rhoos = proving). Italians following the teaching of Galen refer to profluvio di sangue, suggesting an overflow of the blood and implying that such an overflow is beneficial. The ancient French referred to the flux dTor (flow of gold) and the ancient Germans,to goldene ader (golden veins), implying that proctological symptoms may have been the prerogative of the rich!
